Welcome to the Columbus Academy Service Board Website

Last Updated: May 16, 2007

An act of service reflects generosity of time, resources, and energy. It is an investment of self, spirit, body, and mind in helping to meet the needs of others.

The Columbus Academy's mission statement points to the importance of community service in developing responsible citizens. Over the years, the school has established a service graduation requirement to expose students to volunteer opportunities which are a pathway to community service.

Based upon the school's mission, standards and a community service statement, all students are expected to complete fifty hours of service in order to receive a Columbus Academy diploma. Beginning after the completion of eighth grade upper school students have four years to complete this requirement.

Students enjoy the freedom and flexibility to select their own agencies in order that their individual interests may be pursued, so long as their work meets with the approval of the Service Board. All service work must be pre-approved prior to its beginning by the Service Board. In June each student is notified by mail regarding his/her standing and provided with a written explanation of the requirement. Students may also check their services hours using this website or by contacting Ms. Bening, Upper School Service Coordinator.

Paperwork for application and completion is sent home each June, and is available at school, on this website, or by contacting Ms. Bening by email, phone, or post.
